In this workshop the presenters will guide participants through the revised NYS Learning Standards for World Languages at Checkpoint A, sharing classroom activity and instructional strategies. As members of the OHM BOCES checkpoint assessment team, the presenters will also share tips and recommendations for assessments and performance indicators.

It can be a unique experience to teach language in a non-public school: from tiny class sizes to a lack of fellow department members, many language teachers find the experience to be an isolating one. This session will provide an opportunity to meet other teachers in similar situations, share concerns and successes, and establish a network for potential future collaboration.

This session will provide insight into the preparation required for successful student experiences with stations at various language proficiency levels where facilitators will share both prepared and AI-generated resources offering examples of potential station activities. This will allow participants to explore different types of stations, and how to start building their own library of station activities to put to immediate use in their classrooms.

This workshop will empower language educators by providing a comprehensive exploration of the tools offered by Magic School AI. Teachers will enhance efficiency and elevate student learning outcomes by incorporating these tools into their instructional strategies. Participants will acquire the necessary skills to seamlessly integrate Magic School AI into their teaching methodologies, leading to time savings in lesson planning, the creation of personalized language instruction, increased student engagement, improved communication with both parents and peers, and the development of practical language assessments to bolster students' language proficiency.
There is no typical learner; every learner is unique and brings a distinct set of academic needs into the educational system. Meeting the needs of learners with visible and invisible disabilities begins with digital formatting. This session focuses on the accessibility features and considerations for common learning tools in the field of education (such as MSWord, Google docs, PowerPoint, Slides). The goal is to raise awareness of the tools’ features, and the hope is that accessibility practices will become second nature at the onset of content creation. The session will be interactive so please bring a sample that you can examine for accessibility.
This session will address issues relevant to teacher preparation programs such as the culminating performance assessments, NYSED updates, recruitment and retention of new teachers, curriculum, assessment, standards, K-16 articulation, world language methodology and more. Open to all who are interested, especially full-time and adjunct faculty in higher education, this roundtable provides an opportunity to brainstorm ideas, share solutions and to continue important dialogue in the profession.
